Have you ever wondered which fabric should you use to sew your dress or bags? Have you always wanted to start selling the apparel you sew but never knew what kind of fabric to choose from? A basic understanding of fibers, in terms of their characteristics and uses will help you make wise choices when purchasing textiles.  In this course, you will be introduced to the different types of fibers. Nicole will demonstrate and educate participants on the difference in fabrics. 

There will be hands on activities on how to identify fibers through the various burning tests. All participants will take home a Bernina name embroidered fine cotton handkerchief.

What you will learn?
1.       Knowledge of the characteristics of different fashion fabrics

- Natural fibers : Cotton, linen, silk, wool

- Man-made fibers : Polyester, polyamide, nylon

- Semi synthetic : Viscous, rayon, cupro

2. Conduct burning tests to differentiate different kinds of fabric
3. Different application of textile fabrics
4. Fabric care
5. Sew a Tote bag with Liberty using a BERNINA sewing machine
6. Q&A
